A first impression is a lasting impression. It sets the stage for how you are perceived from the first point of contact, forward.

In our digital age, and specific to companies, a majority of first impressions are made online. It has become human nature to learn about a company by looking up their website and other related pages. A first look at your website establishes the tone, overall vision, and in some cases, credibility. In a study by Missouri University of Science and Technology, researchers found that 94% of first impressions are design related. Is your website attractive? Does it delight viewers? Aesthetics can make or break a customer’s decision to engage with you. With this in mind, it’s no wonder that it only takes a few seconds for customers to decide to stay on your website, or leave!

Attention spans are so short these days that it makes it harder and harder to connect with potential customers who are vital to businesses. You can no longer just slide by with a decent website and average brand image and expect immense engagement. Every element on your page must have a purpose, a sense of relevancy, excitement and value to the customer. More thought must be put into how you look, establish trust, connect with customers and how you make them feel. Each component must be very carefully and thoughtfully crafted into each part of your creative design to evoke a certain trigger or emotion and bring your company to life. 

In designing the creative parts of your website, you must know your audience and how you can connect with them to gain their trust. What are their pain points? What kind of colors appeal to them? What type of imagery will interest them? What gets them excited? What problems are they trying to solve? People want to connect with people, not websites, so humanize your brand. What copy and information will they stay engaged with? How does the page make them feel? And most important, how do you want to make them feel? Establish these elements to guide your creative direction and understand the emotion that you are trying to achieve.

The power of brand has never been more important. Win customers over with a striking design, thoughtful direction, creative visual appeal and powerful logo. Get customers excited about solving the problem they came to you for. Prove to them that you truly care about their needs by inserting emotional triggers in every design element. Grab attention, gain that initial trust, and establish a sense of humanized connection in your creative design. If you do not acknowledge the components above, your potential customers will shy away from engaging with you and forget about you all together. You will lose credibility, and worse, business.
